School Ethos and values

Broughton in Furness CE Primary School is a small, village school situated within the historic market town of Broughton in Furness. As a church school, Christian values underpin and reflect our Christian foundation in a way that creates a supportive and caring environment for all who work and play here. We have a very close relationship with our local church family and work with them regularly.

We are enormously proud of our community; we have wonderful links with all our families who support our vision to create happy, resilient members of our future local and global communities. We benefit from our beautiful, unspoilt natural environment, where Forest Schools, outdoor sports and enjoying nature are all part of our day.

Broughton in Furness CE Primary School is fully committed to every child receiving the very best education and to ensuring that all pupils reach their full potential through experiencing a rich and vibrant curriculum. We aim to create a culture of high expectation in which achievement in academic work is recognised as vitally important. To achieve this we expect all members of the school community to behave well, work hard, achieve high standards appropriate to their learning abilities, show respect for one another and to ensure that Broughton in Furness CE Primary School is a positive and safe place to belong.

For us, having a positive ethos, underpinned with values, helps us to model good behaviour to everyone in our school. We recognise consistency is crucial in maintaining high standards alongside a culture that celebrates success for all children.

This statement was agreed in consultation with all stakeholders: Staff, parents, children and governors.

Home School Values

Values-based schools seek to promote an educational philosophy based on valuing self, other and the environment through our Christian ethos and the consideration of an ethical values vocabulary.  Values are principles that inform behaviour. At Broughton in Furness CE Primary School all adults are encouraged to model values and encourage time for reflective practices. We deeply believe this empowers our school community to be effective learners and good citizens.

Our Values-based education philosophy joins together with our Christian values to underpin our work to actively promote fundamental British Values of democracy, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those from all faiths, backgrounds and cultures. A varied and Values based programme of Collective Worship and other school centred events promote children's spiritual, moral, social and emotional development enabling them to explore their own moral and ethical compass to guide their choices of what is right or wrong.
